SOME INTERESTING POINTS
Hawaii is made up of many islands, all formed from volcano production.
A NEW ISLAND is being formed from a new volcano under the sea right now.
The ship made a night veiwing of the lava flow from Mt Kilauea.
Mauna Loa mountain is the tallest mountain in the world! It is 14 thousand feet above
the water and more than that below water. It is about 2000 feet taller total that Mt Everest.
Tourism is a major industry. The pineapple business is shutting down due to taxes and costs. Sugar
cane is now the main income and corn is being planted in many areas, new to the islands.
Kauai has no predators, and Hurricane Inike? in 1992 tore down all the chicken houses, and now there
are an estimated 350,000 chickens running free on the island. There are no snakes. There are thousands of wild pigs also running
wild on Kauai.
Several good local beers made on the islands.
Gas was $4.22 on Maui. It was $2.54 in Aurora when we got home.
Beaches may be the best in the world as is the surfing.
Japaneese residents are now at 38% of Kauai population and control voting and government on
that island.
Golf courses are everywhere!
Traffic is horrendous in Honolulu.

There will be SNOW in the mountians by Halloween according to the locals!
